If you’ve spent any time exploring my crochet work, you’ve probably noticed that I absolutely love making mandala blankets. 🧶✨
There’s just something magical about watching a mandala pattern grow round by round. What starts as a tiny circle slowly expands outward, adding new stitches, textures, and colors along the way.
Before you know it, that little circle of yarn has transformed into a beautiful blanket.
What is a mandala blanket?
A mandala blanket is created by crocheting in the round, building outward from the center. Each round adds a new layer to the design, often using different stitch patterns and color combinations.
The result is a piece that feels almost like fiber art.
Some mandalas look like flowers 🌸
Some look like sunbursts ☀️
Others feel almost like stained glass made from yarn.
That’s part of what makes them so fun to create.
The joy of color 🎨
One of my favorite parts of crocheting mandala blankets is choosing the colors.
Yarn has this amazing ability to completely change the personality of a design. A pattern that looks calm and soft in one set of colors can feel bold and vibrant in another.
Sometimes I choose colors that remind me of sunsets 🌅
Sometimes deep jewel tones 💜🩵
And sometimes bright combinations that make the whole blanket feel alive.
Watching those colors come together stitch by stitch is one of the most satisfying parts of the process.
Watching the pattern come to life
Mandala blankets have a rhythm to them.
Each round adds something new. Maybe a textured stitch, a shell pattern, or a pop of color that suddenly makes the whole design feel complete.
There are moments while crocheting when I’ll pause and look at the piece growing in my hands and think:
"This started as just a strand of yarn."
And now it’s becoming something beautiful.
Handmade really means handmade ❤️
